Machamada Cup 2011 - Hockey’s largest gathering in the world
The Kodavas have genes that express hockey. The 15th year of the Kodava Family Hockey Festival will be hosted by the Machamada family. This month long event will witness spectators in thousands. It will be the most awaited event in Coorg. People of Coorg are waiting eagerly for the Machamada Cup 2011.
The Machamada family hails from the southern part of Coorg. The game of hockey has always been supported enthusiastically by the family. In family hockey festivals conducted over the past few years, the Machamada family hockey team has won the second place twice and the third place thrice. The family now looks forward to promoting the game.
The Kodava Family Hockey Festival will be organized under the aegis of Kodava Hockey Academy with support from Coorg Hockey Association and under the title Machamada Cup 2011. This event— considered a festival and tournament for the people of Coorg— will run for 25 days starting in April. About 250 teams will participate, and this fact is in the Limca Book of Indian Records.
Conducting the event calls for both personnel and financial support. The event will be funded in part by the efforts of the family members. The stadium rental charges, hockey field preparation and maintenance, lighting, sound, installing vendor outlets, and providing supplies to 4000 players and 30 recognized umpires for a period of 25 days calls for mobilizing a lot of funds.
